Modeling and Performance Evaluation of Hybrid Solar Cooling Systems Driven by Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Collectors—Case Study: Greenhouses of Andalusia

Sustainable greenhouses have gained relevance in recent years due to their potential reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural sector by being integrated with renewable systems, contributing decarbonization energy. Although solar technologies tend be more accessible cover system’s energy demands, are subject installation area restrictions, limiting potential. This research evaluates advantages hybridizing thermal collector fields photovoltaic module a greenhouse’s cooling and heating demands. For this purpose, field system were simulated TRNSYS MATLAB, respectively, while method was developed simulate performance single-effect absorption chiller that validated using temperature measurements operation. The results show general maintains differences between simulation smaller than 5% set temperatures 5.5 12 degrees Celsius. hybrid system, an air-to-water as main machine chiller, reached fraction 0.85 fractional saving 83%. represents 27% reduction concerning individual system. highlights configuration reduces fossil consumption improving global efficiency conversion, thereby reducing field.
